Kits are groups of items bound together in a single entity. Some estimating systems refer to kits as ‘assemblies’, but the terms are synonymous.
In Manage, a Kit is used to streamline the creation of estimates by creating packages of Labor, Materials, Plants, Equipment, Subcontractors or Miscellaneous items that can be added to an estimate at one time. Fundamentally, a kit is a grouping of goods and services related to each other via a series of ratios or conversion factors.
For example, each square foot of the Pedestrian Paver Kits requires:
v 1 square foot of paving stone
v .06 hours of base preparation
v .019 tons of crusher run
v .04 hours of plate tamper use
v .037 yards of clean fill disposal etc.
By linking each all these items together, the advantages are two‐fold:
1. Speed and efficiency are increased - By adding one kit to your estimate, Manage360 will automatically calculate all the labor, equipment, materials etc. to complete the task.
2. Opportunities for error are reduced - Kit calculations and material assemblies are created once. Once the conversion factors have been tested and perfected, all future calculations are performed automatically, reducing the chance of human error. Additionally, since all kit material is automatically added to the estimate, it is far less likely that materials, factors or equipment will be overlooked.
Kits have:
• "Standard Components", which is a list of all items that are related to the lead item. Using the example of the Pedestrian Paver kit, the base prep, the tamper, the labor and the clean fill disposal are all examples of items that are standard components.
• "Lead Components" could be a single or list of potential lead items. Using the example of the Pedestrian Paver kit, the lead component list could contain a single or list of paving stones, from which any one stone type is chosen as the lead item for the kit. By setting lead components, you don’t have to create a new kit for each paving stone color or tree species or plant variety. The lead component list of all materials that use the same ratio of standard components. For example, no matter what the color of paving stone, all colors use the same quantities of standard components, so each varying color of paving stone could be listed as a lead component and then chosen at the time of adding to an estimate.
